Major International Collaborations by India

The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, continues to strengthen the global footprint of traditional Indian systems of medicine through dynamic international collaborations and academic exchange programmes. In a landmark move, the Ministry has formalized a series of initiatives under the Central Sector Scheme for Promotion of International Cooperation (IC Scheme), aimed at positioning Ayurveda and other Ayush systems as integral components of global healthcare and wellness ecosystems.

51 Ayush Academic Chairs Across the Globe

The Ministry of Ayush has successfully established 51 Ayush Academic Chairs in foreign universities and institutes. These chairs span a diverse list of countries including Bangladesh, Australia, Mauritius, Hungary, Latvia, and Malaysia, among others. These academic positions are set up in partnership with premier educational institutions and supported by Indian Missions abroad. The primary objective is to promote research, education, and awareness about Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy on a global scale.

The scholars occupying these chairs are expected to engage in teaching, organizing workshops and seminars, offering consultancy, and facilitating collaborative research with local faculties.

Strategic MoUs and Global Engagement

In addition to academic outreach, the Ministry has signed 24 Country-to-Country Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and 50 Institute-to-Institute MoUs, cementing its commitment to international cooperation. These agreements cover a wide range of areas such as research collaboration, education, regulatory harmonization, and capacity building.

The Ministry has also supported participation in over 40 international events, enabled registration of Ayush products in foreign markets, and facilitated dialogue on regulatory convergence for wider market access.

Promotion through Information Cells and Market Expansion

The Ministry of Ayush has also established 42 Ayush Information Cells in 38 countries. These act as cultural and knowledge exchange hubs, providing authentic information about India’s traditional medical systems, promoting safe practices, and addressing misconceptions.

In a bid to promote Ayush products and services, the Ministry is actively supporting exporters through agencies like AYUSHEXCIL, helping with market development, and fostering brand building of Indian wellness traditions in international arenas.

With increasing global awareness of preventive healthcare and holistic well-being, India’s traditional knowledge systems are emerging as valuable contributors to sustainable and inclusive global health.
