IndiaAI and the Ministry of AYUSH Collaborate to Promote Artificial Intelligence in Conventional Medicine

July 31, 2026, New Delhi: To hasten the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) throughout India’s traditional medicine ecosystem, the Ministry of AYUSH and IndiaAI, a project of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership seeks to advance Ayurvedic and other AYUSH systems’ research, digital healthcare, capacity building, and technology innovation. The collaboration unites IndiaAI’s technological capabilities with the Ministry of AYUSH’s research ecosystem. It is anticipated that the collaboration will support evidence-based research, enhance knowledge management, and promote responsible innovation throughout the AYUSH industry.

With the overarching goal of creating a technology-enabled and future-ready AYUSH ecosystem, the partnership will concentrate on increasing the use of AI in research, medicinal plants, drug administration, and capacity building, according to the official statement.

Integration of AYUSH Research Resources with AIKosh

The Ministry of AYUSH’s intended connection with **AIKosh**, India’s national AI repository, is a crucial part of the collaboration. The program will make it possible for appropriate health research materials, such as toolkits, datasets, metadata, AI models, and pertinent use cases, to be shared. It might promote increased cooperation between technology companies and AYUSH institutes, assisting in the conversion of research findings into useful digital applications.

Using Advanced Computing to Encourage AI Innovation

Additionally, the partnership gives qualified participants in the AYUSH ecosystem access to AI computer resources via the IndiaAI Compute ecosystem. Research organisations and developers working on AI applications for healthcare and traditional medicine may find it easier to overcome infrastructure limitations as a result.

New Prospects for Ayurvedic Studies

Opportunities to investigate AI applications in several Ayurvedic domains, including as medicinal plant research, pharmaceutical research, traditional knowledge management, and healthcare data analysis, may arise from the partnership. AI techniques have the potential to assist academics in organising vast amounts of scientific literature, spotting trends in study datasets, and creating digital resources that facilitate easier access to pertinent material.

However, proper scientific validation will be necessary for AI-generated results and forecasts. To guarantee that digital innovations significantly add to the body of evidence, the use of technology in traditional medicine research must be supported by trustworthy data, open procedures, and thorough assessment.

Increasing AYUSH’s Digital Transformation

The MoU expands on more extensive initiatives to increase digital capabilities throughout the AYUSH industry. The alliance aims to establish an environment where researchers and practitioners can investigate technology-enabled solutions to current problems by combining traditional medicine skills, research resources, and cutting-edge computing infrastructure.

The partnership also highlights the increasing interest in using AI in healthcare research and knowledge management while upholding the significance of responsible technological development and scientific proof.

A Two-Year Collaboration Framework

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has announced that the Memorandum of Understanding will be automatically renewed by mutual consent after a two-year introductory period. Neither party is subject to any financial obligations or liabilities under the terms of the agreement.
