The 40th issue of Ayurveda Agenda, a magazine published by Ayush Cell Romania on 6 October 2026, highlights the link between Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy and Ayurveda, marks a milestone in the development of Ayurveda in Romania and presents updated educational resources for students.
The cover story of the issue is on an event organised at the Embassy of India, Bucharest, to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October 2026. Also launched was Volume 4 of Ayurveda in Romania, a publication series documenting the development of Ayurveda-related educational, cultural and collaborative activities in the country.
Gandhi Jayanti Event: New Milestone for Ayurveda in Romania
It was an event that merged the commemoration of the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi with the launch of the latest issue of Ayurveda in Romania magazine. According to Ayurveda Agenda, the programme included paying tributes to Gandhi, planting and watering a neem tree, and the release of the new publication.
The fourth volume is part of a project that started in 2018. The series, published in Romanian and English editions, documents the evolution of Ayurveda education and related initiatives in Romania, including academic interactions, publications, conferences and cooperation with institutions and educators in India.
The publication intends to keep a record of these developments and to offer a reference point for future educational, cultural and research cooperation between Romania and India.
Gandhi’s Philosophy and Ayurveda: Prevention, Moderation and Responsibility
A central theme of the issue is the relation of Gandhi’s ideas on health to a number of principles associated with Ayurveda.
The publication reflects on Gandhi’s focus on prevention, personal responsibility, moderation, simple living and respect for nature. It also discusses his interest in approaches to health that go beyond the treatment of illness to include daily conduct, diet, hygiene and lifestyle.
This issue reminds us of Gandhi’s speech to the Ashtanga Ayurveda Vidyalaya in Calcutta on 6 May 1925, where he stressed the importance of prevention and the need for a better understanding of human health.
It draws attention to Gandhi’s call to Ayurvedic practitioners to carry out their work with rigour, humility and a true spirit of inquiry.
This publication presents these ideas from the perspective of contemporary discussions on the responsible development of Ayurveda. It stresses the need to study traditional knowledge carefully, document experience and carry out honest research, separating traditional concepts from findings established through modern scientific research.
New Learning Resources for Ayurveda Students
Besides the coverage of the Gandhi Jayanti event, Issue 40 brings readers updated educational resources for students of two levels of the Ayurveda study programme: AY01 and AY02.
The resources contain the following topics:
- AY01 – Padartha of Ayurveda: Revised course on the relevance of Ayurveda, the idea of harmony in health, and historical and conceptual links to the evolution of medicine.
- AY01 – Prakriti-Nikasha: A refresher course on breathing patterns in relation to the three Ayurvedic constitutional types—Vata, Pitta and Kapha—and the role of conscious breathing practices.
- AY02 – Vela Chakra: A new course on seasonal adaptation in Ayurvedic practice, including methods of diet, activity and personal care in each seasonal period.
The educational materials are provided in PDF format for reading and printing. Their inclusion highlights the publication’s function in sharing updates on course material and learning resources.
Increasing Cultural and Educational Cooperation
The fourth volume of Ayurveda in Romania and the latest issue of Ayurveda Agenda are proof of the continuing effort to document and communicate activities related to Ayurveda in Romania.
Through its publications, educational resources and coverage of cultural events, Ayush Cell Romania continues to highlight the development of Ayurveda and opportunities for educational and cultural cooperation between Romania and India.
